FORMER PRESIDENT BILL CLINTON HELPS
RAISE OVER $300,000 FOR THE
COLUMBINE MEMORIAL FUND
August 2, 2004
LITTLETON, CO – Former President
Bill Clinton was the keynote speaker at an event to benefit
the Columbine Memorial Fund. The Memorial Committee is pleased
to announce that the highly successful event raised over
$300,000 for the construction of a permanent memorial to
honor the victims of the tragic shootings on April 20, 1999.
Co-chaired by Sharon Magness Blake & Jean Galloway the
Gala’s sole purpose was to generate additional funds
to help construct the Memorial. The proceeds from the event
have put the Memorial funds at $950,000 or 39% of the $2.5
million goal.
During his 25-minute speech Clinton stunned the audience
when he committed to help raise the rest of the funds to
build the Memorial. “You all have waited a long time
to develop this plan, you shouldn’t have to wait to
build it. I’ll do whatever I can to help you.”
The event included a live auction hosted by Channel 9 News’
Adele Arakawa, including five personally autographed copies
of Clinton’s new book, My Life, which quickly sold
for $1500 each. Robert Easton, Committee Chairman, capped
off the evening with a moving presentation on the Memorial
plans. Easton said “We are extremely pleased with
the funds raised through this event and especially with
the commitment made by President Clinton to help with our
remaining fund raising. The support from our event sponsors
and co-hosts Sharon Magness-Blake and Jean Galloway was
simply terrific.
The Gala sponsors included: Bill & Rita Bass Coors,
