(March 14, 2007, Littleton Colorado) The Columbine Memorial Committee announced today, plans for a final funding drive to complete funding for the Memorial now under construction in Clement Park. Memorial construction started last fall and is approximately 50% complete. Committee Chairman Robert Easton says the memorial fund needs another $167,000 in order to complete the project in time for dedication this summer.

Easton said: “When we started construction last fall, we knew we did not have all the funds needed to complete the project. That was a step in faith for the committee and others who have been working on this project since 1999. Funds have continued to come in since the groundbreaking and we are now short only $167,000 of our goal.”

The funding drive over the next month includes contacts to local corporations, newspaper advertising, a motorcycle rally, community fundraising events and radio and TV spots. Committee members pointed out that if only 1,700 people in the metro area (population 3 million+) were to contribute $100 each, the goal would be reached. The Columbine Memorial Committee has raised $1,330,000 in cash and in-kind services to build a permanent Memorial in remembrance of those whose lives were lost, those who were injured and all those who were touched by the tragedy of April 20, 1999 at Columbine High School.

Without this final $167,000 funding, construction of the Memorial will have to be halted.

Construction is well underway and has been slowed due to heavy snow this winter. Plans are to dedicate the memorial in July or August of 2007. A final dedication date will be announced this spring.
