NEWS MEDIA ADVISORY
April 25, 2006
Save the Date!
When: Friday June 16, 2006
Where: Clement Park, Future Columbine Memorial Site
What: Columbine Memorial Groundbreaking Ceremony
The Columbine Memorial committee is pleased to announce that President
William Jefferson Clinton will be the keynote speaker at the Columbine
Memorial Groundbreaking ceremony scheduled for Friday, June 16, 2006.
This is a change from the original date of April 29, 2006. The
groundbreaking will take place at 4:00pm at Clement Park near the
future site of the Columbine Memorial.
The Columbine Memorial, once completed, will include an outer ‘message’ wall
known as the Ring of Healing and an inner circle known as the Ring of
Remembrance. The Ring of Remembrance will recall the tragic events of
April 20, 1999 and pay respects, through engraved text, to the one teacher
and 12 students who were slain that day. The Ring of Healing will surround
the core area and contain additional quotes and text gathered from injured
victims, Columbine students, teachers, staff and other community members.
On April 29, 2006 as part of the Columbine Community Day Celebration and
Run for Remembrance we will hold a Site Dedication Ceremony at 10:00am,
conducted by the students and faculty of Columbine High School, and the
Memorial Committee. The Community Day was developed so that Columbine
High School could give back to the community the support they received
after April 20, 1999. Proceeds from this year’s event will go towards
the Columbine Memorial in Clement Park.
Bob Easton, Chairman for the Columbine Memorial Committee said, ‘We are
thrilled that President Clinton is participating in the actual groundbreaking
ceremony and hope that it will be a memorable and special event for the
families and community. Additionally, we are looking forward to the Site
Dedication Ceremony and Run for Remembrance at the Columbine Community
Day and honored by Columbine High School’s efforts to help raise funds
for the Memorial.”
